Portable ATX case

Hello! I am currently using a HAF 932 Gaming computer case. Now, this case is huge! I love the way it looks on my desk.
The only problem is that its size makes it a hassle to transport. I will be going out of town in the next couple of weeks and I really want a good case that wouldnt impede air flow, but still maintain a portable size so that I can take it without trouble.

I have looked at the Antec Skeleton, but I would only buy that as a last resort because of its price ($159 on Newegg).

My current specs are

Phenom II x4 955 on stock cooling
ASRock 890fx Deluxe 3 Motherboard (Full ATX)
Gigabyte Radeon 5850 OC graphics card
1 PCI wifi adapter
2 5.25 optical drives
2 hdds
PSU (ATX)

Any suggestions for a great full ATX portable computer case would be awesome. Thanks!!!

More about portable case
  1. I appreciate your reply, however the CM Scout is barely smaller (one inch in height and length) than the HAF 932. It wouldnt solve the size problem that they both pose to transportation.

Also, the NZXT vulcan would be awesome if it only supported full ATX mobos. It only supports micro ATX
  2. Hmmm... Do you know how well it cools? Or if it will fit a 5850 or other large gfx cards?
  3. I just read about this case:

    COOLER MASTER Elite 360 RC-360-KKR1
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119205&cm_re=elite_360-_-11-119-205-_-Product

Anyone have any opinions on this one?
  4. i have one sitting in my garage. the fans are not great but they are 120mm so easy to upgrade. with two decent fans it will cool fine. It will fit the ati 5850, I had a similar size card in blackbone.

another option is the xigmatek asgard, roughly the same size

  5. the xigmatek one looks ok, but i dont think i want that one for my comp because it is bigger than the CM Elite 360.

My 5850 is oc'd to 900/1200 (core/mem) so it gets kinda hot even though it has a great aftermarket cooler on it. Will going with a case like the CM Elite 360 or the Blackbone raise the temps significantly?
  6. your temps will go up (no clue how much). you may have to use your stock cooler with the 360 since its rather thin.
  7. the gfx card came with the special cooler on it. It is still just a dual slot card though. Would it really be a problem?
  8. the CM elite 341 gives you the same height as the 360 but a bit more width. plus your PSU goes up top rather then opposite your video card like the 360

oh ok. The more I look for portable cases, the more I think the Antec Skeleton is the smallest I can go while still getting decent cooling. Thoughts?
  12. i guess one of the rosewill cases

its definitely small enough but my main worry would be

    1. its a $160 for a case you will only use for a few weeks.
    2. it doesn't offer much protection as you transport a PC around.

    up to you though
  14. i would use whatever case I get all the time. Im going to sell the HAF 932 that i currently use and move over completely to the new case. Does that change anything?

    what do you mean?

what exactly are you going to be doing that you can't bring the 932? are you flying somewhere? staying in hotels?
  16. We will be driving to San Diego, CA for a while. I live in Mesa, AZ. It is just a total pain to bring a computer that is so big as the HAF.
  17. well if i was going to use the antec skeleton, i would place all my hardware in a box and then build the PC once you reach San Diego. you obviously don't want PC hardware out in the open with no external protection from other luggage, boxes, etc.,

or simply find a box big enough to fit the entire antec skelton PC but then you may as well just get one of the rosewill cases.

for a $160 you can place your entire PC back in the 932 box and have UPS deliver it to SD and then back to Mesa (and have plenty of money left over)
  18. ok thank you for your opinion on things! I think I am going to decide between one of the rosewill cases or the CM Elite 360
  19. no problem, have fun in SD its a great city with great weather!
  20. Thank you!
