how to connect laptop to a desktop computer...?

Set up a home network.
Need router, and connection between router and Home computer and laptop.
Thats the best way, there is a way with a speacial USB cable and software.

And then there is - My wife runs programs on her desktop (Va) from a computer in Calif. using a VCN program and the internet
