Dvi output to vga monitor

Hello,
i have just purchased an XFX geforce 9600gt graphics card for my computer and found out that my vga 22" lcd monitor will not work with it.. I plugged in a dvi to vga adaptor but only to read in the booklet that came with the card , this is not compatable for use with a dvi to vga converter.now i am in a pickle. can you suggest something that will work ?

Get a new monitor. and how the heck is this possible that your gpu doesn't have vga out? :/
