OSX Mountain Lion not recognizing NTFS ext. drive

Hey all,

I know that if you have a Windows formatted NTFS drive it wont show up in an OSX environment. I have a Western Digital MyBook that is NTFS but I now have a Mac and want to format it into OS Journaled (or maybe FAT32 to use between Windows and OSX). However, it's not showing up in Disk Utility for me to format it.

How am I supposed to format the drive if it won't show up? Is there anyway I can force it to show up?
