Video Card for 250W Power Supply?

Hello,

I am very new to the Video Cards world. I bought a computer that seems pretty much a good deal, it is an hp pavillion p6200la with a 31.5 HDMI monitor (HP 2309m) the problem is the video: Intel G31 express Chipset.

I am a Starcraft fan, but my computer is slow while playing Starcraft2, specially when there is many units on screen. So the most obvious is that the Video is not good for the game.

I want to buy a card so I can play properly, but while i was checking the motherboard diagram the system specifications said "250W Power Supply" i've been told by many people that i should change it but i don't really want to.

So the question is:

- Is there a video Card that i could use with a 250W power supply?

well I agree with shadow187.. The HD 5570 is the best you can get but if you wanna push your budget a bit you could buy a 450W PSU and an HD 5770. Well that would cost alot more but it would max out SC2 and would be more future proof.

well you shouldnt go for an Nvidia if you want a lower end / mid range card. Nvidia is for ppl who wants higher end PCs because they use much more power than the ATI cards but ofc they are better too. There are some older gen Nvidia cards that doesnt use that much power but they aint as good as the HD 5570. The 5570 does have DX 11 but you wont really be able to use it that well because you would need more power for that.

The only nVidian options are the 9400GT and 9500GT + GT210 and GT220. All of them are vastly inferior to the HD5570, I think.

yeah they totally are. They are FAAAAAAAAAAR inferior. the 9400GT can barely run crysis. Same with the GT 210 and GT 220/9500GT runs it on low

Guys thank you very much for your help, i will definitely buy a 5570.

I found a provider in Mexico that is selling it for about 99.9 USD and would be about the same with international shipping if i Order it in the US.

And this provider is also selling a good 600W power supply at 30USD and it is listed on the "certified power supplies" list at AMD page.

Again, thank you very much for your time =)

hey..can you help me too? I happen to have the same desktop as you lol. Would you suggest a sapphire 4650 or sapphire 4670? Those are my absolute only options. I'm just afraid that with the 4670, my computer might explode. I already got the powercolor 4650 and it worked fine, but I found out it sucks.

really i think the 5570 is really only for us low power and low profile people. since he has more power and can fit a full size card (i think) then he could go for the 5670 which is around the same price as the 5570 but has better performance. there are some nvidia alternatives aswell.

I would love the 5670 but the problem is that in Mexico a 5670 currently goes about 30 more bucks than 5570 and thats like 130 USD

That ammount equals The 5570 AND the Power Supply :S

Hello Daniel

I was about to buy a 4650 because it said "25 W Consumption" so I don't think it will fry your computer. And the 4670 should be on the same range of Power consumption.

Plus, our friends in here say a 5570 can be powered by a 250W Power Supply, there will be no risk I bet with the 4XXX ;P

Buuuut, let see what our fellow gamers think of it, can a 250W Power Supply bear a 4650 or 4670?

yeh like i said im running a 5570 on my 250w power supply. the 5570 has a max power usage of 42w, the 4650 has a max power usage of 48w. so i can see the 4650 working on a 250w power supply. the 5570 has better performance tho.

the 4670 has a max power usage of 59w and the 5670 has a max power usage of 61w. im not sure if you should risk it.

if you can fit a normal sized card in there then the gddr5 version is better. its only slightly worse then a 5670, mainly because of the clock speeds which you could overclock anyway.

I finally got the card today and i must admit IT IS AWESOME runs smooth and the Temperatures are not going over 49°C

Runs the max resolution (1920x1080) I was so amazed of the performance and I didn't have to change my current 250W power supply just like you said Inferno.

Thank you very much :)
