It is almost impossible to generalise. While I've heard some good
reports about some of the Pro series Raynoxes, the only Raynox I ever
tried - a 0.5x semi-fisheye - was not very good. In fact I had an
el-cheapo video fisheye converter that gave better results..
I do give Raynox credit for posting reasonably large samples on thier
website (altho still not large enough) and as a wild generalisation,
telephoto converters tend to be easier to design than wide angles, so
it's probably not that bad..
I'm currently keeping an eye out for a suitable 2-3x converter for my
Oly 8080, which is a very similar camera to the Sony (even has same
58mm thread). My readings indicate that the Olympus converters, eg the
1.7x B300/TCON17, and the 3x TCON300 are the best quality lenses.
Expensive, but maybe ebay? Check for compatibility though..

i have the raynox 1.85 teleconverter, no problems with it, and jessups is
the uk dealer, you could also try ebay.

This link below is a good site discussing various telephoto/wide angle adaptors. It doesn't cover the
Raynox lens you mention and is slanted towards the Panasonic FZ10 but you will find good information
there for deciding whether you want to spend that kind of money on a long range zoom and the types
of problems you might to run into adapting and using it with your camera . I nearly bought the 2020
pro for my camera a few days ago and am now holding off until I do a little more research on the
subject. After reading through the site I am now leaning more towards the Canon TL and Olympus
TCON lenses, but haven't made up my mind yet.
Just so you don't think I am dissing Raynox, I just ordered their DCR 6600 pro wide angle lens which
should arrive tommorow and I haven't totally written off the 2020 yet either.
www.bhphotovideo.com carries many of the Raynox lenses and will do international shipments.

Thank you to all for the information.
Maybe it would be a good idea to go down with my camera to one of the bigger Jessops and
try some lenses or am I being naive, thinking that they would let me do that?

I think it's fair to say they don't have the reputation of the more
well-known lens manufacturers. On the other hand, I've got one of their
polarizers and the DCR-720 0.72x wide-angle lens, and I think they're good
VFM.

Jessops. You can try them in the store, in my experience. If they don't
have one in, they'll get it in for you with no obligation to buy. If
you're blessed with multiple Jessops stores in your town or city, some of
them can find out what the other stores have in stock.
