New gaming build--- about 1300$ budget.

My friend is building a new rig. He told me his part list, and to be honest it was pretty terrible. I talked him out of most of it, (Lol, i7-950 etc), and he asked me what I would put in my build. I'm asking you guys what you would put in the build.

Budget: About 1300$.

Uses: He needs it for School, and he games. He plays Microsoft Flight simulator a lot, And he also plays other games like MW2, BC2, and Crysis.

Additional Information: He's using
some shitty Hp, with a crappy 17" monitor, so no useable parts. I have a spare DVD RW I can give him. Don't include that. He prefers Nvidia GPUs, and he says that "X58 is a must" . We live near a micro-center. He wants a HAF-932 case. The 1300$ budget is loose, you can go anywhere from 800$-1300$ if you feel there is limited gain by spending more. He wanted the new "H-70", I had an h 50, tried to talk him out of it..... Pick a good air cooler plox. He wants to hit 4.2ghz+ with a 930, so a good oc mobo (Asus x58 extreme as rock?) is a must. A cheap ssd would also be good. (H e wanted a raptor, i tried to talk him out of it)

  2. You've been around long enough to know to use the proper form.

$1300 is simply pushing it if he wants x58 + SSD + Monitor, especially if he also needs OS, wants good cooling and wants a 932 (which really isn't needed).

    You're better of with P55
    i7-750 $190
    P7p55d-e Pro $180
    G SKill eco 4gb $96
    HAF 922 $90
    F3 1TB $75
    XFX 750W BE $130 w/ $15 MIR
    5850 $240
    SSD 60gb Agility 2 $148

    23.6" 1080p monitor $190
    Scythe Mugen $40

$1379, but you can get it under $1300 with combo's and rebates. You'll have to make some sacrifices if he also needs an OS.

Personally, I'd forgo a SSD for now and get it in a few months.
  3. SSD wont help you worth crap, so forget that

    Cool story bro.

But he needs it for Flight Simulator wich is CPU bound.

    Blow me.

    Anyways, Heres my build:

    Case:
    HAf 932: 130$ free ship.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119160&cm_re=haf_932-_-11-119-160-_-Product

    i7-930: 200$ microcenter.

    DVD Rw: Free, from me.

    Os: Free, from me.

HDD: I think he has an old 500gb lying around. I'l ask him.

    PSu: TX-950. 120$ after MIR.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139013&Tpk=tx-950

    Motherboard: Asus p6td deluxe x58
    205$ after MIR.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131403

    GPU:Gigabyte GTX 480.

    432$ after MIR.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131403

    Asus VW246H 24" 1080p moniter. 200$ after promo code.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236049&cm_re=asus_24_moniter-_-24-236-049-_-Product

    Total comes out to 1287$.

HE can get a Hyper 212+ for 20$ from microcenter, that would make 1307$.
  6. It's no story, an i7 9XX hyper threading won't help in games at all, the i5 760 would do the same thing. You have been around so long, you should know this.

True for 90% of games. SOme games like BC2 (wich he owns) at flight sim (wich he owns) can use the ht and 8 virtual cores.
  8. It's not worth the extra 100 bucks for 1-5 FPS.
  9. Try 0-20 frames of an increase, not 1-5.

And it's an extra 25$ at Mircocenter.

Edit: Just realized my build had no RAM. Anybody know a good cheap 6gb kit?
