I upgraded my CPU from a celeron 3.4Ghz to a Core 2 Quad q6600. It booted okay and ran a lot faster but after 10 minutes it froze and I had to turn the power off to restart it. This happens all time runs great but only for 10 minutes. Cpu temp is only 34C. PSU is only 300W is this enough.

This is a calculator that tells you approximately what you should have for a power supply. By guessing at some of the things in your system, I came up with around 265 to 285 continuous watts. If you are upgrading a prebuilt computer (i.e. HP, dell, Compaq, etc) then they usually come with cheap power supplies and it would probably be good to grab another one. Also, did you overclock the Q6600 at all?

You could grab this one for $40 if you don't plan on updating anything else like the graphics card.

apologies for the late update on this, just got over a bout of norovirus, projectile vomiting is never fun. Any way got it sorted, should have checked the basic stuff first. Downloaded live update from the foxconn site, it scanned my system, bios file was 4 years old, installed the update now works fine. I have overclocked it to 3.0 and up till now have not had any problems, cpu temp sits @ 40C.

Thanks for all the replies.
