Flashing SSD's in a RAID Array

I have an Asus Sabertooth AMD FX990/SB-950 motherboard.

I recently purchased two GSkill Phoenix III SSD's to use with this motherboard, and installed them in a RAID 1 mirror.

I would like to upgrade the firmware on the SSD's but GSkill informs me the drives must be using the AHCI drivers to run their Windows flash utility.

I was wondering if I could unplug a drive in the array and plug it into an extra SATA port. The existing RAID array should go critical, but Windows would boot, and I'm hoping I can then see the other drive through the AHCI driver, and flash it. Afterward, I could reconnect the upgraded drive to the array and rebuild it, then perform the same procedure on the other drive.

Can anyone tell me if this would work, and more importantly, whether I can loose my drive data trying this?
