Will a new motherboard suffice?

Well I've been doing a lot of research because I'm trying to upgrade my computer into a decent gaming rig, and I have some questions if you guys are willing to answer. :)

Basically I want to know if there is a motherboard that supports a core 2 quad Q8400 which I believe is LGA 775, but also supports newer DDR3 1600 or 1866 ram, as well as crossfire or SLI for new graphics cards(such as GTX 560 ti or radeon 6870s). I've come across a few in the past that I thought might work but wasn't sure. Or am I forced to basically build from the ground up with an i5 so that I can get the proper motherboard to support the ram/GPU.I've been up all night researching, and any answers are appreciated!
