The Athlon X2 5400+ is an AM2 CPU it will not work at all on a Socket AM3 type motherboard.AM3 motherboards also use DDR3 memory and your CPU will only use DDR2 type memory.You can use a AM2+ (in addition to a older AM2) motherboard for that CPU though and they are still available (and still popular).

If I lived in USA, I would get a AM3 prosessor for $50. But you see, I don't.

Just to let you know kosmos_oc most of the current AM2+ motherboards can be upgraded later on with more powerful AM3 CPU's (sometimes needs a simple BIOS update) in case you decide to upgrade the CPU in the future.

It works like this.

AM3 CPU -> AM2 motherboard (if 95W or less TDP)
AM3 CPU -> AM2+ motherboard
AM3 CPU -> AM3 motherboard
AM2+ CPU -> AM2 motherboard (if 95W or less TDP)
AM2+ CPU -> AM2+ motherboard
AM2 CPU -> AM2 motherboard
AM2 CPU -> AM2+ motherboard

That is all the compatibilities listed for you right there.
