Stupidly slow OS performance from hard drive

Hi guys,
Just built a new system, asus p8z77-v mobo with WD7500kpvt hard drive.
Windows 8 is running stupidly slowly, with programs hanging and crashing everywhere.
Looking at the task manager the HD is pinned at 100%, with only 0.5-1 mbps being read.
When I do a benchmark however, I can see the disk is not that slow at all!
I've done a defrag, and tryed both the intel and asus sata ports.
Any ideas?

The problem is you choose Windows 8 and uproven buggy OS. You best option is to try and reinstall Windows 8 or check for all updates on the microsoft website
