Installed a windows update yesterday. Restarted the computer and things looked normal through POST test and the windows XP loading screen with progress bar appeared but once windows was loaded, the screen went blank. Monitor went blank and said no video input was being received. Did my drive crash or perhaps my video card? Did the windows update screw with my video drivers? Tried safe mode and last known good configuration at startup and no luck...

Yes, the update corrupted the video driver. Common problem, happens all the time.
That is why so many have shut off the updates permanently.

Now, there is a REPAIR, that will restore the operation, without erasing the files and programs. You need the operating system install disk.
Without the disk, no repair.

OK, what OS? XP repair instructions are located in Tom's XP forum, sixth post from the top.
Windows 7: put the disk in the drive, and select "upgrade" This reloads all the drivers, without erasing your personal files and programs. Works every time just about.
