Will backup drive 3.0 fit older laptop

I have a Toshiba L67500X Laptop better than two and one half years old. On my desk, I have WD My Passport 750gb 3.0.

I realize I cannot get 3.0 or 2.0 speeds from this, but will this even fit my machine. I never thought of this till after I got it home so never opened it yet.

Also, is there a cable or something one can get to hook up and make a 3.0 backup drive work properly on a machine as I have.

I might add this after having posted ...

I just found this out regarding the ports on this unit - here it comes with feeling ...

Bridge Media Adaptor (SD, SDHC, Memory Stick,
Memory Stick Pro, Multi Media Card), 2 USB 2.0, 1 USB
2.0/eSATA combo port, RJ45, external microphone port,
headphone port, RGB, HDM

So I'm guessing I should be ok in opening up this backup drive without any worries of it not working, correct?

  1. The WD My Passport is an external drive. It's not designed to fit inside your laptop.

A USB cable comes with the drive. Just connect one end to the drive and the other end to a USB port on your laptop and you are good-to-go.
  2. I wasn't really thinking I could squeeze that portable drive into my laptop, although if I get totally bored, I could give it a whirl I suppose. My question was originally to see if it would fit a 1.0 usb but hadn't realized I have a 2.0 usb. (Really bright)

I have a WD My Passport 750GB backup drive here - what's your opinion on those? I realize there is a WD My Passport Essential - not sure about the difference between the two - you have an opinion on which would be the better?
  3. Sorry, I don't know what the difference between the 2 models are.
  4. No problem. Thanks for your replies! Much appreciated!
