I have recently experienced a very strange problem with my schools network. The port in my room only gives good download speeds with old hardware. I can get 6Mb/s down with my old xps m1530, but when I plug my newer asus g60 into the port I can only get 1Mb/s down. The strange thing is when I tried my new linksys router on the port I can only pull 1MB/s down on either computer. However if I use my friends 4 year old old dlink router I get 6Mb/s on both laptops. What is going on here?

I am using windows 7 64bit and my university requires that I register one MAC address. I am pretty sure the university is running 10Mb full duplex.

Make sure you have Jumbo frames disabled and try manually setting the adapter to 10Mbps full duplex instead of auto-negotiate.

Jumbo frames is disabled and my adapter setting is on 10Mbps full. I have pretty much changed every setting on my network adapter hoping it would fix it but nothing works :(
