I have Compaq core 2 duo E4200 and the specs I have gathered suggest this can be upgraded to a E4400 or Pentium E2*** series or d9** series.
Does anyone know if this system can be upgraded beyond those cpu's suggested..
Has Lancaster 8 motherboard

It's a socket 755, so you're at least stuck in that realm of Core 2 and Pentium based processors. There may be some kind of BIOS update to add support for more chips from the series, though I highly doubt there is one.
These OEM boards really aren't the epitome of options and upgrade-ability :/

Yes I have found nothing on a bios upgrade so am left I think with the maximum upgrade of e4400..
I did find that although most write ups on this board give it as a maximum memory of 2Gb I found one suggesting 4Gb. I now have 4gb and it runs without problem.
I have not been able to determine that overclocking is possible with this board either.

i need more specifics than that...
exact make and model unit and more specifics about the board..

I'll help you out:
Asus or Intel version of Lancaster8 / HP motherboard.?
I need the exact serial number.

The unit is a Presario sr5250nx
E2140 1.6 cpu
Using Vista
The MB is Lancaster 8 -IPILP-LC (with a number nearby- NI3219)
by ASUS with a 945GC chipset
I am wondering is it the MB serial your asking after?
C785115- 05487-60-MBB5HD-A01 5.11
These were the numbers on the printed strip with bar coding on the edge of the MB
HP p/n 5189-0462 C78S115-00999 These numbers on another barcoded strip in center of MB
Hope this is what your after
Thanks
