Physix card and graphics card placement.

hello i have a 9800gtx and wish to upgrade it to a gtx465 and use the old one as a physics card. the only problem i have is my 9800gtx has an aftermarket cooler that makes it 3 slot instead of 2.

do i have to run the gtx465 on the slot closer to the cpu or can i use it on the third one (tri-sli board) for better air flow to it. because the 9800gtx has to ether be on the 1st slot or the second because it will hit my power supply on the third. on the second slot the gtx465 will be on the first but will get no airflow to it.

If you have a look in your motherboard manual it should tell which slots you will have to use to run two way SLi, it's usually slots 1 & 2 though regardless of where they are positioned on the board.

it is not sli it is just one for physics dose the main graphics card (one the monitor is hooked up to) have to be on slot one. or can i have my physics card on slot one and main card on slot 3 for better cooling of my main card.

The primary card will be in slot 1 as far as a game would be concerned I would have thought, so as soon as you fire some thing up it would try to run it on the 9800. That's my guess anyway.

You should be able to do it, just set the 465 as the primary card.

Though why would do want a GTX465, beside the gold MSI one that unlocks into a GTX470, get a GTX460.
