VIA VT1708S codec vs realtek alc 883/882/885
which one better for sound quality ?

Realtek has a better reputation than VIA. I am not familiar with that exact VIA codec but I would go with Realtek.

+1 When you have audio problems with new games, you will be glad with Realtek because there will be driver update that solves the issue.. Via I have no idea.... But I do know Via tends to 'drop' support for products.... I know that cos I own a Socket 478 and 775 Via chipset motherboard. Realtek? Their LAN PCI cards and AC97 audio still have driver updates.... So I would go Realtek.... Some Via audio chip supports 10 channel audio..... But in reality will you even get a 7 speaker set-up???
