I just got done installing a Samsung 240G SSD into my daughters laptop (32 bit vista). I thought I had done everything correctly but when I check the offset I see 236MB. I have read that it should be 1024KB. Should I start over with the install?
Look at the exact number -- run msinfo32 (just type that in the start button search window) and look under Components, Storage, Disks -- the value shown as the last one for each partition (Partition Starting Offset) should be evenly divisible by 4096.
If it is you are fine, if not a clean install is the best way to correctly align, although there are some tools and you can do it manually but it is a painful process that does not always work.
