Cannot access data on a slave protected by a password

I have connected a hard drive running Vista from a failed PC as a slave in a second PC running Windows XP Pro, but I cannot access the data, 'Access Denied', I have disabled simple file sharing., When I right click on the folder in Windows Explorer, select Properties, there is no security tab.
Please help?

can you access the files when booting into Safe Mode?

That is only relevant for Windows XP home, I believe

you need to take ownership of the folders which you can only do as an Administrator in Safe Mode.
