are you going for a single or dual card setup?

if a single card, get a asus directCU 5850 and overclock the hell out of it

if a dual card setup, then it depends on your monitor resolution and games you want to play

dual 460's give you gtx 480 level performance, crossfired 5850's give you 5970 level performance

it all comes down to how much money you want to spend

For that res a single GTX 460 will work rather fine. The Palit GTX 460 Sonic Platinum is the best of the bunch.
Two of those bad boys would outperform a single GTX 480 :D
PLUS, they dont use too much power, a 450wat with 28 amps on the 12+ rail is that they recomend (correct me if im wrong), and for the performance, that is super low. (My old GTX 260 needed 36 amps and recomended a 550 wat PSU LOL!!)
And take in count that SLI Scales BETTER that Crossfire, almost 90% with the 460. :D

best overall performance will be the directCU 5850 hands down, more so at your resolution

the card is 330$ at newegg

personally i wouldn't go for a palit 460, it may have the highest clocks, but they dont have any cooling for the mosfets and can overheat and damage your card. out of all the aftermarket 460's those have the highest rate of failures and issues, including qc issues

if you want to go for a 460 id go for this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

For your resolution and your budget I'm going to suggest something probably no one ever has: GTX 460 768MB.

1.) You want to run 2 cards eventually, so Radeon 5850's out with it being more expensive and scaling worse with 2+ cards.

2.) You run 1920x1200 resolution, which review sites show the GTX 460 768MB handles fine. The quick drop off people see from insufficient video memory doesn't happen until 2560 resolution.

3.) Your budget. A GTX 460 768MB would be just $199 now (or $189 for this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...) and that again, or less later when your wallet is replenished.

4.) Guru3d has a good article showing how the 768MB version performs in a variety of games at 1920 resolution. See if it meets your standards here: http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gtx-460-sli-revie...

If you are looking for single card performance, the 5850 is tough to beat. I would recommend doing a little bit of poking around and it doesn't hurt to look at reviews of the 3 cards you are looking at. They will show you what frame rates (average and min are probably what you want to focus on) for some games. However, if you don't play gamees that are really GPU intensive you don't need a ton of muscle and a single GTX 460 would probably be fine.

If you are going to go dual cards, it seems like dual 460's in SLI are shaping to be a phenominal value and are the config to beat. At $400-460, they outperform the $500ish GTX 480 significantly in most benchmarks. Again, just make sure this isn't overkill for what you will be using them for. You also need an SLI compatible motherboard, which you may not have.

You should post what games you play or want to play along with the res :)  Let us know what you decide on and how it works out!

All in all this is my final build

Motherboard: ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3
CPU: AMD X4 965 3.4GHZ
Memory: 2x 2GB Corsair Dominator DDR3- 1600Mhz
Graphics Card: ASUS EAH5850 DirectCU TOP/2DIS/1GD5

The system is booming i made sure my motherboard was crossfire compaitable but my next upgrade is going to be another 2x 2GB Corsair Dominator DDR3- 1600Mhz just becasue i can :p

But all in all my pc performes with no problems. I did alot of research and the HD5850 was the best value for money and i cant complain about the card.

At the moment im playing minesweeper :D  hahhaha
nah im playing starcraft 2 atm, installed force unleashed but im looking at some games that supports DX11

Thanks again for all your help

I'd Recommend DiRT 2, its a pretty mint looking game, and HAWX

someone just told me that the ASUS EAH5850 cant handle extreme physics engines.... so tonight im installing crysis, singularity and proving him wrong :p

Im not to big fan of racing games and flight games im more RTS and FPS games.

You guys dont know of a decent quest game like titan's quest. Diablo 3 still takes to long to release.
