I wonder if we could raid 48 drives of 512 GB SSD, would that be possible

Read http://www.tomshardware.com/news/samsung-ssd-hdd-raid,7... You'll have to find a motherboard that has enough PCIe slots for 4 or 6 controllers. Unfortunately 48 fast SSDs should easily saturate the PCIe bus. Tom's created a software RAID which served no purpose other than showing that it can be done and that it's fast. With so many drives in a single array, it wouldn't be reliable enough for production. What's your goal?

So its possible, but would be absolutely ridiculous to make it work.

It's a good thought experiment, but impractical for actual use.
