I've had a Core2 Quad system for quite some time. I recently landed a cheap Q9650 that I'm putting in to replace the Q6600 I've had for over 3 years and I'm also planning to upgrade from 4gb to 8gb memory. Here is my hardware:
Q9650 (new chip I'm swapping)
EVGA 780i nForce (model with 2xDDR2 slots and supports up to 8gb)
planned: G.SKILL 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-6400CL6D-8GBMQ
If I were to get a stable OC of the chip to have the FSB at 400mhz (i.e. 9.0x400 = 3.6ghz), that lines up exactly with 800mhz DDR2 correct? The mobo is rated up to 1066/1333 I believe. I'm just making sure that if I OC this new chip that the memory is appropriate to take full advantage. I thought there used to be a guide either here or at guru3d that had this very clearly defined but I don't see it being spelled out so clearly on the guides I found today at either site.
Ultimately I just need clarification on the how the memory clock should relate to FSB clock, I'm bright enough to combine that information with what hardware I'm dealing with.
