I'm looking at upgrading the memory in my system. I run an i5 on a gigabyte motherboard w/ 4 gig of Corsair 1600 MHz. I'm currently only using up 2 of my 4 slots and was looking at my available options. One option was to upgrade to 16gigs, another was to add an identical pair to the 2 remaining spots for a total of 8 gigs.

Main uses include gaming, minor multitasking and movie watching. Will I notice any differnece w/ these upgrades? I notice my memory usage idling at close to 50% w/out any load.

Also, what would you recommend?

If you feel you need 16GB then go for it. Maybe you wouldn't see that much improvement now (maybe you would), but depending on how long you keep this build, you will probably be better off for it in the future if you upgrade to 16GB. On the other hand, if you are doing ok with 4GB then 16GB might be more than you need right now, in which case I would go for the 8GB (total).

I just thought that I would point out that if you are going for the 16GB kit, then it is $65 dollars cheaper at newegg (at $94.99). It is one of the deals they are running, I don't know how long it will last though. So for an extra $40 you get 4 times the memory... personally it would be difficult to resist going for the 16GB with a deal like that. The link...
