I am wondering how you have your 10D set up in order to get the best
pictures when you are just after snapshots. Do you have them set at
factory default or is there some particular setting you modified and
why so.

As with any photographic situation, it depends on the lighting, the
subject, & the kind of look I want. If there was a particular setting
that /always/ produces "the best pictures", cameras wouldn't need manual
controls at all.
If you are totally non-technical, you might want to stick with all the
'dummy' modes on the dial. That said, 'P' mode can be quite handy if you
want to shoot RAW mode, & you're not too fussed what shutter speed &
aperture settings are used.
