How much ram for editing video

Building a new computer, parts are on the way! I am totally new to this endeavor, your expertise needed, many thanks--

I am now thinking I may not have enough ram for editing/rendering in Premiere and using Photoshop

What do you think? Currently have 8GB ordered:

This is what I would use, and IMO a second ODD like a BluRay writer. The (2) HDDS in RAID 1. Also, Adobe is accelerated with a fast SSD Scratch drive; an alternative is the MAX IOPS OCZ Vertex 3 SSD.

Thanks, but I ALREADY ordered the whole thing! Just need to know about the ram (well, and whether I need a discreet gpu too)

What do you think about those two things jaq?

Adobe Premiere will be slow without a discrete GPU, the iGPU is good for MPEG 2/4 encoding output only; yes you'll want to use Quick Sync. It ALL depends on the CODEC(s) used.

RAM at least a 2x4GB Kit of F3-12800CL8D-8GBXM ; Patriot is horrible RAM.

Here't the problem, 2x4GB + 2x4GB DDR3 1600 MHz don't always work well together so the ones I posted F3-12800CL8D-8GBXM will work at Rated DDR3 1600 in 2x4GB and 4x4GB otherwise get a 4x4GB Set and be done with it now.

OK, thanks, I ordered the 16G corsair (low profile) will return the Patriots.

Also, since I have a) never overclocked a cpu; and b) never configured an integrated gpu, can I overclock the hd3000 and enable quick sync but the mobo will know to default to the discrete gpu depending on codec or task? (is this a stoopid question?!)

ANS: A = Easy CPU Multiplier and raise the vCore to keep stable. Use Prime95 to stress and HWMonitor for temps.

Video Quick Sync {MPEG-2/4} is Intel HD Graphics + RAM + SSD/HDD
Video non Virtu {Encoding} is CPU + GPU + RAM + SSD/HDD ; depending on the encoding codec used
