Recently purchased a 1U rack server (HP Proliant 360DL G8) with 8 SFF (2.5") hot-swappable drive bays, but I don't plan to use all the bays and have not purchased drives yet.
1. Are all SSDs hot-swappable, and/or is the hot swap option in a server independent of certain drives and/or hardware? I have found conversion kits for 2.5" to LFF and SFF HDDs, but nothing in the SSD market that specifically indicates they are intended for server use.
2. This rack didn't come with any bay covers -I don't even know if they're necessary- but I wouldn't intuitively think leaving empty bays uncovered is a good idea. I've looked for some sort of after-market cover that would protect bays from dust but not completely restrict airflow, but haven't come up with anything. Is it okay to leave them open (server will be placed in a co-location facility).
