I have an external 1.5TB WD HDD 1021 drive that will not allow me to backup information to it. It hangs up about 20 seconds after the backup operation begins. I ran the extended option of the Data Lifeguard Diagnostic utility on the drive and it took 20 hours to complete. The test results said the drive had too many bad sectors. I'm trying to backup a disk image (with Window 7) onto the hard drive. Any words of wisdom on a possible solution?

Only one solution, the drive has failed and you will have to buy a new one. The failed drive is not repairable.
+1 to phil22! It will fail entirely very soon. If you need data from it, copy it quick!
