I need some help with upgrading (graphics card)

Im buying an old AM2 socket computer from my dad for $250 (a steal with everthing that comes with it)
I'm upgrading the RAM (it only has 1gb haha) and getting a graphics card because its running on onboard graphics.
I already have the RAM but I dont know the best card I can get before it will bottleneck.
My mobo is a "GA-M55plus-S3G" and I have an Athlon 64 X2 4200+
please help me with this upgrade
