Connecting the HD LED, Power SW, Reset PW

How do you connect the cables for the power button, reset as well as HD led?
There's positive and negative, but the cables aren't exactly labelled properly and some are blue and white, others black and white.
I remember reading somewhere before that it doesn't matter because if they're inserted wrong then it won't work.

White is typically negative.
Polarity doesn't matter for the switches.
The LED's won't work if wired backwards.

Well, your answer is better than what I know, so thanks.
why can't the manufacturers just keep it simple, designate a certain color for negative and anything else is assumed/deemed to be positive.
