Sell whole rig or part it out?

I have a mid-range gaming rig that is worth about $1200 if you were to buy all the parts on new egg right now. however, I want to sell it now and was wondering if it's better to part it out or to sell the system as a whole? also where is the best place to sell it? thanks!

More about sell part
  1. Without a parts list, how could we guess?
  2. Offer to sell after you provide a detailed listing of the components. Generally, a working computer is better positioned for a sale as compared to a bunch of used parts.

Try to sell it at this site (classifieds)
  3. sorry, i was on my ipod earlier and didn't want to type out the parts list on the small keyboard if not necessary :p

anyway, here it is (these are all rough prices i think, i checked a few weeks ago):

    ASRock P55 ATX Mobo - 100
    4GB (2x2GB) G.Skill DDR3 1600mhz RAM - 90
    Core i5-750 2.66GHz Quad-Core CPU - 190
    Cooler Master Fan/Heatsink - 15
Sapphire Radeon HD 5770 Juniper XT Video Card - 180
    Corsair 650W 80 PLUS Certified PSU - 90
    Edimax PCI Wireless b/g Card - 20
    Samsung Spinpoint F3 500GB 7200rpm HDD - 55
    CD/DVD Drive - 20
    Cooler Master HAF922 Case - 90
    20" LG Widescreen LCD Monitor - 200
    Keyboard/Mouse - 30
    Altec Lansing 2.1 Channel Speakers - 45

the total comes out to be a little over $1100, so closer to that, not $1200 like my original post sorry.

anyways, that would be the price if you bought all the components brand new today, but i built this about 7 months ago so they are a little used. what should i price it around?

if anyone wants/needs more detailed names of products (like product numbers or something) just let me know, i'll be happy to post 'em :D

    *EDIT: most prices are from
  4. It has decent components all the way around. id sell the computer as a whole. if you can build it now for 1100 id take off 10-15% + labor for building and try and sell. You can always overrpice the computer at first to get a feel for what people are willing to pay then adjust accordinly. worst that will happen is no 1 bites =p goodluck

also it wouldn't hurt to include a detail pricing for the buyers. let them know what you paid and what their getting. should help your chances.
  5. thanks for that! I think I may try to sell for $1100 at first and adjust from there. where is this "classifieds" section on this site someone mentioned?
  6. i'm guessing craigslist. they have a computer section you can post.
  7. Go to the main Forums page; it's all the way at the bottom.
