I take it price is no issue?

In terms of raw power the 5970 in CF is better then even TRI SLI 480s.

You're comparing 4 GPUs to 2, its almost not fair.

What resolution do you game at, I'm sure SLI GTX480s is more then enough anyway, plus you get Nvidia 3D and good Tesselation.

Heck, id recommend 3 GTX 460s and oc each one. 2 can get about 35 fps at what you said, oc them and maybe around 40, 3 oc'ed im guessing close to 50. Also quite a bit cheaper/cooler/quieter/power effiecient

EDIT: not sure if the 460 can do tri or quad sli...maybe wait till 475.

Sorry, GTX460s are limited to 2-way SLI.

Yeah, i remembered that right before you said   Even so, id get 2 of those, oc the crap outta them, and you would get very good fps. The Hawx version was supposed to be able to hit 1000 MHz...

Wish EVGA would release "classified" version of 460s like they did with the 285s and enable 4-way SLI. :hello:

I definitely would not go with CF 5970s, because they tend to have issues (quadfire). A single 5970 is great... for multicard set ups, IMO two 480s would be really killer or two 5870s. Either one will perform great, but the 480s have a slight advantage with 3D and PhysX, but then negative is that they consume a boatload of power - far more than the 5870s.

In all honesty, id wait for the 475 when it comes out (who knows, soon maybe?). GTX 460+10-15% performance and tri sli=WIN! If your not in the waiting mood, the 480 will burn a hole in the atmosphere with more than one. To be honest, it doesnt even have amazingly better performance over the 5870. Sure, it beat it, but it isnt worth the extra 30-100 watts (per card), extra 5-20 C degrees, or even sound. The added price even makes it worse.
