Hey guys, I I have a Gateway GT5654 with an MCP61PM-AM motherboard. The motherboard is equipped with an AM2 socket.
Right now I have an AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ installed but I am looking to upgrade and was wondering what is the latest processor my board will allow
without performance issues. I read that AM2+ processors will work in an AM2 socket but will be limited in performance.
Some of my other system specifications are as follows:
GPU - EVGA NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT 512MB
RAM - 3GB of Samsung PC2-5300 dual channel
350GB Western Digital SATA hard drive
If I can upgrade, I'd like to know how much of a performance increase I'll get (if any). I understand this system is outdated and I plan on building an i5 or
an i7 machine in the future but this is what I've got right now and I'd like to boost an already reliable system's performance.
Thanks guys.
