Ordered a Dell Inspiron 700m over the New Year weekend and it's now
showing shipping date to be this Fri 7th Jan. I took their free
shipping offer which is 3-5 days.

As I am on a bit of a schedule, based on people's experiences with
Dell, what's the chance it'll arrive by the following Tues or Wed? The
delivery location is in Sunnvale, CA, which should be a reliable
location for delivery.

I tried to get Dell to change their shipping method by paying extra
(over the phone) but the rep said it can only be done by cancelling the
existing order and put up a new order. Isn't that just crazy? The
machine is still in the test phase...

Thanks for any tips or suggestions...

I've ordered 3 or 4 laptops from Dell. None have been later than promised,
most were a day or two early.

Thanks. That's most reassuring. Fingers crossed...

A friend of mine ordered one for his daughter. It arrived before it
showed it shipping from Dell. I hope yours does the same.

Again a thank to all who responded. It would appear that I am in luck.
The unit is now at the box stage and will ship tomorrow (2 days ahead
of earlier projection). If things go well, it may just get delivered by
Fri or Sat. This is most reassuring. :)

Good job Dell!

Dell's ETA is usually a worst case scenario. Their products usually ship out
earlier.
