Acer al2216w does not register in Nvidia Control Panel

Turned on PC today-

Processor:
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9550 @ 2.83GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.8GHz
Memory: 6142MB RAM
Hard Drive: 400 GB
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470
Monitor: acer AL2216w
Operating System: Windows Vista™ Ultimate (6.0, Build 6002) Service Pack 2 (6002.vistasp2_gdr.100218-0019)
Motherboard:
ASUS P5N-D
Computer Case:
LIAN LI PC-60

And to my surprise my resolution was at 800x600! and its max res. available was 1024x768. My monitor default is 1650x1080.

Plus Nvidia Control Panel only recognizes monitor as "Digital Display" and not its actual make and model.

After install the monitors drivers from Acer directly, the Device Manager will recognize the make and model correctly; no such luck with nvidia control panel and max res. in both is still 1024x768.


After many hours of searching and subsequent attempts at fixing the prob (including searching this forum: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/94-63-screen-resoluti...) and having tried everything that the above mentioned post suggested and many others as well. No Luck!
