Made in china doesn't mean the prices will be less there...but still you can try out its always better to check everywhere and then go out with the best and cheaper.
By the way amazon and newegg have great deals out there that can also be looked forward too.

Fact is, "things are always cheaper in china" is a myth.
The cheaper 768MB GTX460s are ~1300 Yuan, or about ~$190.

Unless your friend is Chinese and is willing to haggle the price down to ~1200 ($175) (Very possible) or you get great exchange rates from a not-so-official source, the effort isn't worth it, you don't get warranty either.

And even if you got warranty will you go back there with your friend to claim your warranty??

Nope, i wont have to pay any taxes, i dont have the choice, gtx 460 is not available in my country nor will it be that soon . I live in Mauritius, so cant use newegg, as for the amazon shipping cost and time is not interesting. :S
Thats why will try china -

Hey rather than trying china try ebay
here is the link
http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m570.l131...

they are providing free shipping ..and remember ebay is always trusted atleast for me...

Thxs for your help, would like to try ebay, free shipping will not apply for my country, and it will take alot of time to ship, it will just equal to china, where in both cases no warranty[shipping]& location distance & time] . Anyway, will think abt it, the only prob is my location , tiny on the map :D

The price of GTX 460 in China is little bit expensive than US, about 5%. but consider the sales tax, it will be little bit cheaper in China than many state in US.

I live in China just built a PC using GTX460 SLI, had some power supply issues http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/forum2.php?config=tom...

I paid 1470RMB for one 1gb 460 card, in a town called Shajing, technically part of Shenzhen City.
Its the Galaxy card, factory overclocked to 700mhzGPU.
Galaxy is a company formed Shenzhen, so its actually a Chinese brand.
My card works beautifully, paired with a i7930, and the overclocking software it comes with is really easy to use and powerful.

Depending on where your friend is going will depend on the price he pays.
For instance if you go to a famous or large computer marekt, the starting price will be higher, as the rents are higher.
I went to a famous one in Shenzhen down town and they wanted 1700RMB for the same card, I could haggle them down to the same 1470RMB, then then that market is far from my home.

There are no export taxes or import taxes, and even if there are you would be a muppet for declaring these things anyway.

As far as warranty goes, i am not sure, but i should imagine that as long as you register the card with their site or something like that then it will be fine. Also international shipping isnt that expensive if it comes to it, $20 for the first 500g Shenzhen to USA.

Taobao is not to be trusted, everything is faked in CHina, and that is not an understatement, there is obviously real stuff on there, but just as much fake crap as well, be aware.

However if anyone has had good experinces from it i would love to hear as its often the cheapest place to shop for PC stuff, in China.

Well, first, I just gave you a website as price reference, but not a suggestion for you to buy it from that website since your topic. Taobao just like ebay in china. if you can't trust ebay, then can't trust Taobao either. but it is a good website to compare the price.
Second, I do see evga, asus sell in that website.
Third, you prob dont know Gigabyte and Galaxy is two major brand right now if we talking about GTX 460. Gigabyte 460 1G OC has decent customer review and seems it is top sell from Newegg. Galaxy has 810Mhz OC version with tons of professional review.

THe Galaxy seems to be a nice card, I pushed mine upto 800gpu 1600shader the other day for GTA4, 55c under load, getting 60fps on the built in frame counter 1920x1080 everything on high drawdistance 60 detail 60 traffic 100.

Before you all comment about built in fps counter being unreliable, I dont really like installing loads and loads of programs on my PC, just whats needed, lean and mean, if the program counts it's own frames it's not going to be that far wrong really.

Btw, mate, the gtx 460 of galaxy that u bought is real fine rite ?
I want to buy an evga or asus there, if it cant be found, would you personally suggest buying the galaxy card ?
August 19, 2010 3:45:12 AM

The Galaxy is a nice card, seems like it will overclock much higher than what I have OCed it to right now, as its still really not hot inside and I have no artifacting of any kind at this level, the software it comes with is fine and easy to use.

I havent had it long, only two weeks, I have never owned a galaxy made anything before so I cant comment on long term quality, after sales service, or their willingness to honour warranties if it was needed.

However it is fast, runs (this is all i have been playing so far) GTA4 / Just Casue2 / FarCRy2 / Metro 2033 all just great with everything set on max, usually with 4xAA or less.

One thing though, out of the box the cards cooling fan spins really slowly and so is super quiet, but turn it up to 100% and that thing is loud, like a small travel hair dryer.

When gaming I use nosie cancelling headphones so its not a big issue, but seriously that is my only complaint, that mofo is noisy when up to full speed.

I just came back from China. I visited the computer city in Guanzhou. Believe me, the prices are much higher for computer hardware are much higher in major cities (comparing to Newegg prices). However, accesories are cheap. I got myself a 100 feet RJ45 network cable for $30Yen, which is about little bid over 4 USD.
