Hello,

I have read in couple of places that I don't remember, that "why fix something that ain't broke". Does that apply to SSD firmware updates?

Should I update them? I have seen in other forum questions that people have had problems with Samsung's firmware updates.

Thank you.

Only update if you are having issues with the drive.

the 840 series had some issues with small writes after heavy use, which was fixed with this update. If you have a backup you can simply update firmware with the Magican.

General Advice

If they release a firmware update as a 'hot fix', within say 180 days of the product release then consider updating the firmware to fix those general issues.

After 180 days or so they shouldn't be releasing firmware as frequently anyway and the issues addressed would be more specific than general.

Don't touch it. I just BSOD when updating firmware with Magician. My PC is now completely broken. Can't boot anymore.

Don't you have to take the SSD out and install as an extra drive in another comp, to update the firmware?
