Seagate 2TB ST2000DM001

January 8, 2013 4:55:20 AM

I've been looking for a drive to put into a single bay NAS. Judging by these, http://goo.gl/TXaBm , charts the 2TB Seagate ST2000DM001 looks pretty good for the price.

But it appears that there are two different versions of the ST2000DM001. This Seagate document, http://goo.gl/sc4lw , in section 2.1 page 11 shows that there is one version with 3 666GB disks and one with 2 1TB disks.

There has been some discussion here, http://goo.gl/pijN6 , and here, http://goo.gl/S1R2X , regarding the 3 disk version being noticeably slower than the 2 disk one.

Does anyone know which version Toms used for the above benchmarks? And does anyone have experience with these drives performing differently to what they should be?
