HD Purchase

Forgive me fellow techies for I have been ignorant in regards to this matter.

I always bought at the middle ground or more expensive side in hopes of getting a better product. I have to now reconsider my purchasing strategies for Hard Drives.

I would have geared toward purchasing a 1TB hard drive with a 5 yr warranty for $159.99 as opposed to a drive with a 2 year warranty for $99. My thinking was that the manufacturer had more confidence with the bigger warranty & I deduced better product? I would have assumed that the $99 would simply die out quicker.

I am now reconsidering this. For the bigger warranty you are actually paying for the customer support phone calls & new hard drive in advance & in part. In 3-5 years from now the standard will be 3-5TB & so would render a new 1TB less appealing.

Overall I think that the $99 is the better deal, especially for a backup drive & not one used as a main drive.
