Ok,

I have this old E2180 @3.2 rig with an 8400GS that I and the rest of the family use for web browsing, etc. The 8400GS is fine for what it is, however, this rig will soon be passed down to my sis with an E5200 OCed to 4Ghz. She would like to be able to play SC2 at mid quality (at 1280 or 1680). When I have friends over, I would like to be able to play COD4,Crysis (obviously at low-mid), Halo CE, and some SC2, LOL,etc. I/she would like to spend less than $90 (after MIR). So far I have narrowed it down to a 4850 or a 9800GT.

This 9800GT is $60 after MIR: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] -_-Product

This 4850 is $85 after MIR: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] -_-Product

So, for price vs performance which one is better?

Other relevant specs:
5GB RAM
Corsair 450VX
Antec 900
500GB + 320GB + 250GB + 2x40GB HDDs
Win 7 x64

Well the 4850 is quite a bit better, if you don't mind spending the 15 dollars its the choice I would get between the two hands down...

EDIT - I just saw that 4850 in my e-mail promo, its a pretty good deal.

Yeah, that's just the thing, is the extra $15 really worth it for what this PC will be used for?

Yes the 4850 is worth the extra money. I am running 2 right now and i have yet to truly see a limit to them.

there is also a 4870 for free shipping and 100 dollars after MIR I would say just go for the extra 15 dollars lol

the 9800 gt is kinda weak... i used to play with my 4850 OC on crysis all very high at 1680x1050 at 30fps avg in dx9 mode however and on a quad

the friend i sold my 4850 to plays sc2 maxed out with it pretty easily too

wait hold up the 4850 is $25 more than the 9800gt
