I7 CPU cooler suggestions

Hi all,

I am looking for a CPU cooler, I thought I can rely on the basic one that is coming with the processor but it looks when all cores are 100% the temperature is between 80 C and 90 C, so I need to upgrade it.

I am playing games from time to time but I am doing a lot of computing on this PC and the CPU can be ~80 for a few hour per day. The budget is ~100$. Should I go with a standard one or liquid...

Also, do you know a temperature chart for i7 950 ?

System:

Intel i7 950
Asus P6X53D Premium
Nvidia GTX460
Antec P 183

Thanks,
Dan

  1. I forgot to mention an important thing for me. I want it to be quite - (to be quite is important for me) - this is the reason I asked if I should invest in a liquid one or something else..

    Thanks,

  2. Well, do it then.

Get a nice case and a Corsair H50. Bit over budget.

Fan coolers aren't too loud tho.

Is H50 better than Hyper 212 Plus comparing the noise or cooling, is not clear from your comment ?
  4. Cooling? Yes

Noise? Yet to test one for myself. Both should be fairly silent.

    H50 = Top 5 air coolers ~ rough perf.

Hm.. I've just read a review about H50 and I am not so happy about it. The dependency about the case and the case fan doesn't make me happy at all. So I do not consider H50 an option is this moment, looks like I am back, any other suggestion ?

    Thank,

Other than that I can't think of any other cheap water coolers off the top of my head. But decent water coolers are far more expensive, see?

  8. Cooler Master V8 is a monster. Keeps my i7 920 at ROOM TEMPERATURE on stock clocks, and 70-80C at 4.2GHz.
  9. Thank you all for the answers received. I am going with Cooler Master V6 GT.
