How to use spare router as access point

I just bought a wireless N300 Net-gear router model WNR2000 v2 I've hooked it up and I was reading that I could use my old Linksys router as an extra access point or an extender I'm not sure but is anyone familiar with this ? And if indeed I can use the old router will I in any way jeopardize my security?

yes it possible to set the linksys as access point just need to connect LAN port of netgear to LAN port of the linksys and set the wireless setting and disable the DHCP of the linksy router.
