Laptop RAM 2gb+4gb Recommended?

I have a question here.
My laptop here runs i3-2310 and came with 2gb ram, however they gave 4gb for free, so now i have 6gbs of ram, in 2gb+4gb slots. Is this recommended?
If not, what should i do?

It should work fine. Many OEMs are doing the 4GB + 2GB thing anyway
