Windows XP wouldn't load so Dell told me to load a 2nd copy and use that to
retrieve my files. Problem is I can't access the old files in my
administrator account. When I click on the folder containing the files I
want, it says access denied. When I hold the cursor over the file, it says
the folder is empty. Is all my data gone? If not, how do I get to it? None
of the files are showing up when I do a search either. I can find no record
of the old user account anywhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You need to take ownership of the files. Take a look here for
the procedure:

Thank you, thank you, thank you! It's all there and I'm backing everything
up right now.
