CD/DVD Drive Issues

So for the past few months my computer has stopped playing the end portions of both CD's and DVD's. They both play fine until about three quarters through it. At this point it freezes and it sounds like my CD/DVD drive is going through a grinder. The same problem persists no matter what program I use to play the CD or DVD. As well, when I try to RIP music to my program, such as windows media player, it will RIP all of the CD accept the last 2 or 3 songs. Please I really need some wisdom.

Sounds like the drive needs to be replaced. How old is this CD/DVD drive?

I bought the computer new. So I believe it's going on five years old.

It's entirely possible the drive is bad then. You can find them relatively cheap now and they're not difficult to install. Let me know if you need any help.
