I would go with 2 modules as opposed to 4, for 2 reasons.

1.) If you have a motherboard with 4 slots and you use them all, lets say 4x2GB for a total of 8GB, then if you want to upgrade to 16GB in the future you will have to buy a 16GB kit (4x4GB) as opposed to only having to buy another 8GB kit (2x4GB).

2.) In my experience using all 4 slots increases your chance of encountering problems. Always best to use 2 slots as opposed to 4.

Two RAM slots will allow OC'ing the RAM even though there is little advantage in doing so these days with the bandwidth and frequency of DD3 RAM. When you use all four RAM slots many BIOS will only allow the RAM to be run at the CPU default speed.

Whatever quantity of RAM you desire - buy it all at once as a Matched Set to be sure it will function at the advertised speed. Buying multiple sticks of the same part number RAM does not guarantee that the multiple DIMMs will function at the advertised speed of a single DIMM.
