is there much speed difference between 5700 rpm and 7200 rpm?
would a 7200 rpm HDD be much better for games and loading up programs or is there not that much difference in speed/time?

It depends on drive density. Usually you would want a 7200 RPM drive for installing programs, as the read time and seek time is much lower. You will have a noticeable difference between the 2.

I would highly suggest a 7200RPM drive.

Yes there is a difference between 5400 and 7200rpm drives and I would avoid 5400 drives.
