Hello,
I have a Maxtor One Touch III 200Gig External Harddrive that has decided to stop working. I am unable to access anything on it. The error message comes up as a corrupt file management system. Unable to repair in Windows XP Recovery Console. Tried using TEST DISC and it was unable to repair. Any suggestions?

Test it with Seagate SeaTools for Windows from here: http://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/seatools/

If the test says "Failed" at any time, I'm afraid the drive is finished. The only way to get data off a failed drive is to send it to a data-recovery service but that is very expensive.

So far it has gone through the first 3 steps on the tests with no problem. Running the long diagnostic test now. Will let you know the results. Thanks

it ran all 5 of the basic tests that seagate has with no problems. chkdsk in recovery console still will not access and I can not figure a way to repair the file management system. Any clues?
