Hi everyone!

I just read an article on wikipedia (french wikipedia) which declares the end of commercialisation of the i7 920 for the end of december 2010 (in fact the 24th) because of the incoming i5 sandy bridge.

I tried to find other informations and sources but couldn't put my finger on anything.

Is that true?

Thanks!

More about : end 920

If it's true I don't know, but it would not surprise me.

The i7 920 has been replaced by the i7 950 in its price class now, so yeah it's kinda unsurprising.

If u are looking at buying a i7 cpu then the 950 is the one to go for. My old 920 i could clock to 4ghz on stock volts. Don't know about the 950 :D

It's already been pulled off the shelves... Poor thing. Oh well, the 950 is a great proc and given the opportunity would buy one. :D

And so advances technology once again.

The i7 950 is cheaper in the UK than the i7 920, I've just brought one BNIB for £159.99 / $246, unbeatable. :D

Yep, 920 is done and the 930 is right behind it. 950 might last awhile and the price should go wayyyy down after sandybridge kicks off. Intel is pushing the sandybridge really hard so they're quitting with some of the "older" stuff.

^Don't be too sure its aleady had a massive drop and will still be very capable cpu.

Eventually it will fall away like the others but not straight away, I think it will stay the same price for a while.

+1^

If the C2Q price points are any indication I'd say the Nehalem i7s will be $200+ for some time.

Yes, but the i7 950 for $200 is wayyyy down from the $500 now.

And it will be a great performer for some time to come

it was mentioned a while back the I7 920 would be discontinued. The Sandy bridge platforms will fill the 300usd and up gap. I take it the 970 might come down a bit and the high end sandy bridge models will fill its spot and other side of the 980x. So that fills every gap.

I think they might drop the I5 to under the 200usd mark.

I don't think any of the 6 core Gulftown processors will drop much until a Sandy with more than 4 cores comes out, which probably won't be until next summer.
