Compaq sr1230nx sata drivers windows xp

I have a Compaq sr1230nx with a single 160GB HDD in it. I would like to add a segate 500GB drive to the machine (as an additional data drive) without reinstalling windows at all. The chipset is via km400, if that helps at all.

I have read that I have to enable SATA somewhere in the BIOS, but I cannot figure out how to do that. The drive is fine as I have had other computers recognize it. Thanks

  1. VIA's KM400 chipset incorporates the VT8237R SATA controller. This controller is limited to SATA 1 speeds and will not autonegotiate a reduced link speed with SATA 2 or SATA 3 drives. Make sure your Seagate drive has a functional 1.5Gbps speed reduction jumper.

The link you posted directed me to the general hardware FAQ page. What page were you referring to in your post?
  3. see the one replacing a hard drive for the settings of the drive and the bios utility to check if the bios see both drive as they should be .
